Ashtarak - Karmravor

On the edge of the village of Ashtarak, in the centre of a vast cemetery enclosure in which large khatchkars alternate with simpler box tombs in stone of various shades. The church, with its cruciform plan, takes up the typical scheme of the martyria and preserves the archaic helmet-shaped roofing system, covered with clay tiles instead of the usual pyramidal roof. The walls bear a rich series of inscriptions and incised crosses.
