Ashtarak - Marine'

Situated to the north-west of the village of Ashtarak, this church, built in 1281, is square in plan on the outside and cruciform inside. Characteristic are the tall drum and the very elegant, particularly slender conical roof, both adorned with motifs in relief. The small bell tower on the south wall is a 19th-century addition. Next to the church stands an unfinished building whose construction dates from the beginning of this century. Marine, too, is enclosed by a fortified polygonal perimeter, now almost completely destroyed.
