Ererouk - Basilica
The building stands near the village of Ani-Pemza, a few km from the border with Turkey. It consists of a large longitudinal space with a nave and two aisles, preceded by a pronaos set between two façade towers, flanked by two porticoes and ending in a semicircular apse set between two rectangular rooms: the front part, formed by the atrium and the corner towers, the two side porticoes and the stylobate itself are architectural and stylistic elements also shared by some contemporary Christian buildings in Syria, and were added to a much simpler earlier building, similar to the typically Armenian basilicas of Kassakh and Tekor; the entire roof of the basilica has now disappeared and only the perimeter walls remain. Conservation work was carried out in 1928 and 1948.
