Garnahovit - S. Gevorg

This church stands in the centre of the village of Garnahovit, at the foot of the eastern slopes of Mount Aragac', in the T’alin region. It is one of the best-preserved examples of the tetraconch type with cylindrical niches on the diagonal axes giving access to four square corner rooms. The base volume ends in a system of roofs (now partly damaged) which, through their greater height, emphasise the position of the four apses, describing a great cross in space: at the crossing of the arms of this cross rises the octagonal drum, whose faces are larger on the main axes and smaller on the diagonal axes. The dome was merely hinted at by a ring of lightly incised discs at the start of the curvature, immediately above a second system of conical squinches. The missing part has now been replaced by a flat wooden roof.
