Khorakert
It stands in an area of dense vegetation on the southern slopes of Mount Lalvar, on the border between Georgia and Soviet Armenia. The polygonal enclosure contains several chapels and the main group of buildings, consisting of the church and the gavit. The church, of the “domed hall” type, has a most interesting drum, pierced at the base by a large number of slit windows separated by small polygonal piers linked by small shell-shaped arches; the dome is ribbed by six intersecting round arches. The gavit, of 1252, somewhat wider than the church, had a roof on four intersecting arches, of which, strikingly, only the main ribs and part of the lantern were still standing until a few years ago.
