P(I)T(I)Ghni
It is one of the oldest examples of the domed hall (Kuppel - Halle), with a single grand nave deeply articulated by the four piers supporting the dome. Particularly notable is the solution of the corner squinches made of ashlars laid in a fan (funnel-shaped niche), which carry the dome on a tall drum. Also noteworthy are the rampant half-barrel vaults supporting the roof and buttressing the thrust of the vault along the long sides of the church. The structure of P(i)t(i)ghni is the prototype of numerous other buildings of this kind. It is currently in ruins.
