Spitakavor

This is a small convent for women, built on the side of a hill in a splendid panoramic position, in the territory of the village of Bachkend, in the Yegheghnadozor region. The complex consists of a circuit wall enclosing a small church preceded by a portico, now roofless; the church is characterised by a very tall cylindrical drum surmounted by a very slender conical roof; the outer walls of the base volume are richly decorated with panels and geometric reliefs, the most unusual element of which is the large cross on the east wall, whose arms are oddly drawn in an irregular and asymmetrical way. The entrance door to the church, on the west side, is surmounted by a lunette in bas-relief depicting the Virgin and Child.
