Scheelite

Scheelite often crystallises in bipyramidal forms and more rarely in tabular form. It takes on shades ranging from colourless to brown, but is often yellowish-orange in colour. Hard and heavy, scheelite is characterised by an intense blue fluorescence when exposed to short-wave ultraviolet. It is soluble in acids but does not melt easily. It can form equally in contact metamorphic rocks, in hydrothermal veins and in pegmatites.

It is of great industrial importance for its use in the extraction of tungsten.
