Rusconi Camillo
Funerary Monument of Gregory XIII
Rejecting the complex scenography of Bernini's tombs, which ultimately end up contradicting the very essence of sculpture, Rusconi attempts to recover their more properly plastic values, almost to the point of the raw freshness of the untutored stonecutter; where this intention seems to give the most appreciable results is in the relief of the sarcophagus, perhaps because of its “minor”, less courtly tone.
