Mariani Camillo
Saint Jerome
The cultural situation in Rome, still at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, continued to be marked by a widespread eclecticism, the natural consequence of its exceptional position as a centre of attraction for artists of the most diverse cultural backgrounds. Moving from his native Vicenza to the Venetian workshop of Alessandro Vittoria, Mariani inherited his unmistakable qualities as a modeller, never forgetful of pictorial effects even within the strictest stylistic rigour.
