Sick Youth

Arnolfo's Perugia fragments, and especially this reclining youth, are similar in their framing to the metopes of an archaic Greek or Etruscan temple; slender and most elegant in pose, the languid image makes the most of the skilful articulation of the limbs beneath the light undulations of the drapery clinging to the body.
