Young Woman at the Fountain

Like the sick man, the thirsty old woman and other fragments, this sculpture decorated, perhaps, a small fountain in Perugia that was dismantled very early. How Arnolfo's supreme stylistic mastery can filter the echoes of Etruscan-Roman archaism and the conscious demands of Gothic sculpture is shown by the easy elegance and the sculptural imperiousness of figures such as this.
