The Sin of Our First Parents

This process of interpreting Gothic linearism in the service of a new sculptural vision finds its highest expression in the decoration of the main portal of the Bologna cathedral, commissioned from the Sienese master in 1425 and left unfinished owing to the artist's death (1438). The side pillars bear stories of the Genesis, the architrave has scenes of the childhood of Christ.
