A prophet

The group of "colossi" that once adorned the exterior of the Pisa Baptistery may now be admired in all their imposing grandeur inside the same building. They mark one of several critical junctures at the beginning of Giovanni Pisano's career. It can be assumed that Giovanni, on the basis of a conception by his father Nicola, had here the opportunity to put his own harsh personality to the test.
