Deposition

The exceptional expressive possibilities of Manzù's sculpture perhaps find their highest expression in relief, very low relief, almost only a vibration of the surfaces, free of all naturalistic dross and all hedonistic sensitivism. The minimal deviation of the line, the lapping wave of light, the cool vividness of the image, all contribute to calmly bridling the bursting swell of feeling.
