The Miracle
The stern massiveness of his figures gradually passes into a dramatic agitation that once again calls into question all canons of composition and balance. The sculpture assumes a decidedly vertical structure, with sharp, cutting ascending rhythms, in a contrapposto of swerves and counterthrusts. The horse rears up in a violent and unreal leap, but the dynamic impetus settles into a precarious architectural balance, constantly questioned and recomposed. Never had an element so familiar to human vision been bent to such dramatically violent and personal meanings.
