Milani Umberto
Mode n. 20
On a slab the sculptor records by means of incrustations - chips, segments, and bits of slag, a hermetic alphabet for initiates, but suggestive - the course of his emotions. This automatism of signs has stimulated many experiments, particularly among the younger generation of painters and sculptors, probably because of the refined elegance with which it allows the brutality of the material to be redeemed; in most of these experiments, however, a mannered, hedonistic lack of restraint ends up prevailing.
