From the shallows of the “Novecento” Mascherini reached an elegant and finely intellectualistic mannerism that fuses, in impeccably drawn images, sophisticated sensuality and cultivated reworkings that would like to be archaic and primitive but are instead merely archaeological. In more recent years Mascherini's mannerist stylisation has opened up to more animated and dramatic forms.
