Donatello

Saint Rossore

Donatello also applied his renewing spirit to the traditional “type” of bust-relic statues. He created an ideal portrait of the Saint, as he had with the Prophets, emphasising in his choice, the profane character of a gentleman-warrior, rendering the religiousness and the sacred as ethic values, of experiences suffered during life and nobility conquered by wisdom.
