Deposition

I n the late thirteenth century descriptive naturalism prevails over stylized synthesis; the strict and expressive coherence of the Tivoli Deposition is dispersed in color effects. What gives this work aesthetic significance, however, is its frank abandonment to emotional feeling, the strong surge of pathos that redeems everything by dramatic warmth.
