Epitaph of St. Cumian

The inscription dates from the 8th century and is therefore contemporary with the altar frontal of Sigvald, but the surrounding border, which appears upside down in relation to the inscription itself, may be earlier. It certainly constitutes a particularly refined and incisive rendering of the plant ornament which elsewhere (see the fragments in Brescia) is interpreted in a weak and irregular manner.
