The Queen of Sheba

The legendary queen, now disengaged from the wall to which Romanesque sculptors had hitherto anchored their figures, comes toward the onlooker with the enraptured grace of a Greek kore. At the same time she is a creature of the age in which she was carved, the Biblical personage who descends in the guise of a medieval princess.
