Winter
Throughout the seventeenth century Venice depended on foreign artists, who made up for the scarcity of able artists to continue the tradition of Sansovino and Vittoria. Only with Marinali would the rebirth of a worthy local school be heralded. Le Court was Flemish, but, apart from a Madonna in Antwerp and a chapel in Ypres, all his works are in the Veneto, in Venice in particular, where together with Longhena, an architect of resonant colouristic effects, he conditioned art for practically the whole century, cleanly severing every link with the past and establishing a new, frankly Baroque formal language.
