Martyrdom of St. Lawrence

Between 1591 and 1603 Tiziano Aspetti modelled a remarkable group of sculptures for the Santo. After moving to Tuscany he executed this relief, without doubt the finest piece in his catalogue, even though the problem of relief does not seem coherently resolved there, owing to the clear predominance of the round over the geometric and spatial motifs.
