The nervousness of the forms, the agility and elegance of the linear rhythms that spring from the skilful distribution of the figures in the gently modulated space, not without hints of a depth suggested by the new humanist concerns, are the most typical aspects of Ghiberti's relief, cultivated and highly refined. Only a very controlled taste prevents the display of gratuitous virtuosity.
