Where it would seem most reasonable to presuppose the guidance of one of those “provvedimenti” (that is, drawings or models) which tradition – supported also by Ghiberti's testimony – attributed to Giotto, is undoubtedly in panels such as this, for the compact squaring of the volumes and the spare vitality of the representation.
