The Annunciation

Having won the competition, Ghiberti worked on the new door from 1403 to 1415; but the finishing took many more years and the door was installed only in 1424. Both in the overall scheme and in the formal solutions Ghiberti looked closely to Andrea's model, obtaining from the bronze, preciously gilded, a skilful fusion of linear and luministic accents.
