The Assumption

Several artists collaborated, between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, on the Porta della Mandorla of Santa Maria del Fiore. The central figure of the Virgin of the Assumption is certainly by Nanni di Banco, quivering in the highly mobile, rhythmic draperies and in the dynamic twist of the figure, which gives it an expressive emphasis already alien to the elegant cadences of the Gothic.
