A far more complex and cultivated personality such as that of Nanni di Banco, towards the end of the century pursued more or less the same aims in his robust and vigorous sculpture. A cultural background already distinctly humanist, but of a humanism still of the fourteenth century, particularistic, gives his figures a recollected and thoughtful dignity, without frills.
