Orcagna Andrea
Tabernacle
The picturesque exuberance of late Gothic has its most conspicuous manifestation, in Florence, in the spectacular tabernacle that the Laudesi commissioned from the architect, painter and sculptor Andrea di Cione, known as Orcagna, after the plague of 1348 made famous by Boccaccio's masterly description. The elaborate and highly ornate complex was completed in 1359.
