Gemito Vincenzo
Alexander the Great
One day Gemito shut himself in a room and for more than twenty years pursued in vain, in the finest of drawings, an ideal beauty, obsessive. No sculpture. Then suddenly he came back to life, took up the modelling tool again, tried to give plastic life to those dreams. There arose the series of variations in reliefs and busts on the young Greek hero. But the fresh immediacy of his early years was irretrievably lost.
