Seated Dancer
Alongside the horsemen and the very many portraits, the female nudes, Pomonas and Dancers, blossom with bursting vitality in the sculptor's imagination; Marino declared years ago that in these heavy and imposing female figures he set out “to explore in depth, in an ensemble ever more unified, firm and yet free and loose, the natural play of volumes. But this search for volumes is not the sculptor's only problem, for he must never forget that what moves us most in a sculpture is always its poetry”. In this way the artist himself invited us to seek, beyond rigorous formal consistency, the expressiveness inherent in the work itself, its allusive relationship with the gestures and passions of man, reduced to their primordial necessity as vital attributes.
