Slowly Bartolini, in his own way, re-enacted the rediscovery of the values of the past in relation to the investigation of nature, and attempted their harmonious fusion. However, a more sophisticated historicist awareness had by now dispelled subjection to the Graeco-Roman preconception; thus in Bartolini's culture greater weight was carried by the Tuscan masters of the 15th century, Rossellino, da Majano, Verrocchio.
