Michelangelo Buonarroti
Night
The classical design of “Leda” becomes, in Michelangelo’s fantasy, the emblematic pose of a tormented sleep. The terrible, physical presence, the truth of this is fused in an elaborate invention of a composition of counterpoint and dynamic twisting. The freely-placed body follows the impulses and psychological movement identified in the ideal form.
