Tomb of Lorenzo de' Medici
As in the Sistine Ceiling, the figures introduce other dynamic, divergent rhythms into the solemn architectural framework, clearly formulated in perspective. Their very pyramidal arrangement is broken and complicated, from within, by continual plastic contrasts. And this movement, governed by laws of dialectical correspondence, concludes and is summed up in the knot of counterpoints that is the statue of Lorenzo, unfolded nonetheless in a slow flow of masses, from the shadow of the helmet over the face to the alternating poses of the limbs in depth.
